The snake skin is in really nice condition and the balance of the leather, likely goat skin leather is flexible and also not dry. I have reconditioned the bag and will include recommendations to keep it this way for years to come. I am not a snake lover but find the idea that this case was made from the African Rock Python to be truly amazing. The front and back are made from one large piece of snakeskin. The body of the case is likely goat skin and is in really like new condition for a case that likely dates back to the 1970s. The African Rock Python is a large, non-venomous snake native to sub-Saharan Africa. It is one of the six largest snake species in the world and is widely feared, though it very rarely kills humans. African Rock Pythons have a thick body covered with colored blotches, often joining up in a broad, irregular stripe. In my research, I believe that this is the snake that this handmade case is made from. By the craftsmanship, you can tell the person was a true artisan and had learned the craft of leather working. This type of work is truly a rare skill that is passed down from generation to generation. The artisan who made the case hopefully passed down the skill to the next generation but in this day and age, I would guess that many of these cases are the remains of truly dying craft. Thankfully some of these cases are built so well that they have made the journey into the 21st century. I was truly stunned when I discovered it! I have added a moose leather handle wrap. I use high-grade 10-ounce moose leather which is very comfortable to hold in your hand. It is removable to you can use it on other cases you may have. Once you have touched moose leather you will be a fan as I am. I like the saddle bag design with two buckles at the bottom. I love the look of the Python skin leather. It has definite scales as you can see in the photos. It has just the right amount of distress to the case to add that coveted well-worn look. However, it is structurally sound and ready for many more years of service. I imagine someone like a college student or an IT professional who appreciates the rugged and vintage look taking this to a meeting. It is sure to get comments and compliments. It is unlined leather; this is very rare these days. It is really rare to find a bag at upscale retailers that is unlined. In my opinion; unlined is so much better and lasts so much longer. It has two large pockets and on one side has an additional flap pocket that closes by simply sliding in the flap to a perfectly shaped slot. The stitching is a double-loop lacing technique. It takes one highly skilled to do this lacing. It really is a true piece of art. Others carry their MacBook Pro in a case made in China made of Nylon. The person who carries this case is literally carrying their MacBook Pro in a piece of art made by a leather master craftsman.
